Ongoing work on Lindow Moss

On June 4th, 2025, Cheshire East Planning gave the green light for two vital planning applications, 24/0920D and 24/2020D, to restore an additional six compartments of the cutover peat bog at Lindow Moss.

At the start of February, the owners of Lindow Moss started to move ahead with their restoration work, a project that will slow the release of COâ‚‚ from the bog and, over time, transform it into a net carbon sink and support further biodiversity.

Signs have been posted by Terraqueous Ltd, who are carrying out the work on behalf of Croghan Peat, explaining the importance of taking care around the work areas and, even more importantly, heavy machinery. Some parts of the bog may be temporarily closed for health and safety while this work is carried out and it is vital that dogs are kept on leads while walking on the Moss during this period and that you give work areas a wide berth.

During this time, you might see lots of trees and vegetation being removed to clear areas, but do not be alarmed! This is all part of the agreed restoration plans.

Please also be assured that NO peat is being extracted.

Further work will be taking place from May onwards, but we will advise you as soon as we know exact dates. We're very excited that this work has started and will update you on progress as and when we have it!
