Say hello to our new resident!

We have been working with licensed bird ringers from the West Pennines Bird Ringing Group and this morning we had a very exciting species appear - a juvenile Willow tit - the UK's fastest declining resident bird!

We are very excited to find evidence that this rare species is breeding on or near to the moss as this is the first record since 2016, although it is a very secretive and hard to spot bird.

It is a specialist of scrubby wet woodland habitats, which is also in decline, and we will be working with partners to ensure that where this habitat occurs it can be preserved and improved to benefit Willow tits, alongside many other species.
